Today, the president of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, offered his congratulations for the approval of the Treaty of Lisbon by the Rumanian Parliament. Thus, the one from Romania was the fourth approval of the document defined with the summit taking place last October 18th-19th in the Portuguese capital, after those in Hungary, Slovenia and Malta. Barroso talked about "a further mysterious stage towards the objective of the coming into force" of the text, scheduled on January 1st, 2009. "I hope added Barroso that the other member States will quickly follow the path opened by the four States which have already approved the Treaty". The European Union opened a special web space entirely dedicated to the Treaty, (www.europa.eu/lisbon_treaty), which includes a description of its political meaning, a synthesis of juridical innovations, the most common questions and answers, the update of the ratification operations. There is also the proposal of the relating documentation, with the complete text of the Treaty and the text of the Chart of fundamental rights, which became binding exactly in Lisbon.
