BENEDICT XVI: TO SEMINARIANS, "ACTING UNITED AS IN ONE BODY"

” “"Your communion is not limited to the present, but also concerns the future: the pastoral work that awaits you must see you united as in one body, in one ordo, the one of the presbyters, who, along with the Bishop, take care of the Christian community". As he met today the seminarians of Collegio Capranica for the Feast of Madonna della Fiducia, the Pope recalled that the training to priesthood also involves a "very important communal aspect". The Apostles, recalled Benedict XVI, "were trained together" and "family life" for all priests, since the years of the seminary, is a "preview" of that "priestly brotherhood" which "must exist in every diocesan presbytery". Speaking at length of the years of the seminary as of "formative years", the Holy Father highlighted "two aspects" of them: "detachment from common life", which, to listen to God’s "soft" voice, "requires a silent climate", to which the seminary "offers spaces and times of daily prayer, "takes special care of the liturgy, the meditation of God’s Word and the Eucharistic adoration". At the same time, living in a seminary "demands that many long hours be spent studying: by praying and studying – said the Pope to the seminarians –, you can build within yourselves the man of God who you must be and that people expects the priest to be".” “
