Some considerations to responsibly assert one’s right and duty to vote at the general election in Spain on 9th March: they are given in a message by the Spanish Bishops, who met from 29th to 31st January for the CCVII meeting of the Permanent Commission of the Spanish Bishops Conference. The purpose of the message is "to truly cooperate to the spiritual enrichment of our society, the strengthening of true tolerance and cohabitation in mutual respect, freedom and justice, as the fundamental basis of true peace". The Bishops, partly referring to the Pastoral Instruction "Moral guidance for today’s situation in Spain" dated 23rd November 2006, highlight that, "while it is true that Catholics may support and join different parties, it is also true that not all programs are as compatible with the faith and requirements of Christian life nor are they close to and suitable for the objectives and values that the Christians must promote in public life". In fact, "the Catholics and the citizens who wish to act responsibly, before supporting an idea by voting, must weigh all the political ideas, bearing in mind the esteem that every party, every program and every leader attaches to the moral dimension of life".
