Slovenia is the second of the 27 EU member states which have ratified the Reform Treaty. In a poll last night, the Parliament of Ljubljana counted 74 MPs voting for out of the 90 who compose the national assembly. The prime minister, Janez Jansa, current president of the European Council, states: "For the EU, the Lisbon Treaty is not only a way to rule more effectively the relations between the member states, create common policies and improve European integration, but also a way to enpower" the community "to be remarkably more effective in its external actions". According to Jansa, the new rules outlined by the mid-October summit will provide the EU with a "clearly defined identity" and will strengthen its policies on the global scenarios, "consistently with its economic power and political influence". Jansa then said he hopes the ratification of the Treaty will move on fast in all the EU member states.
