Can one go beyond clichés about the relationship between man and woman in European society? Can one overcome the obstacles that hinder actual gender equality in education, work, culture and the media? These are some of the questions which are the underlying theme of the conference promoted in Brdo (Slovenia) today by the current presidency of the 27 member states, followed by a meeting of the EU Ministers of welfare, labour and gender equality. Meetings will go on until February 2nd and "are an essential commitment of the Slovenian government on this subject" for its six-month presidency of the Union. "The ministers explains a note from the presidency will discuss women’s social participation and emancipation". In addition, they will tackle some aspects of flexisecurity (flexibility and security), "in the attempt to offer guidance to the member states about their national legislations". In addition, the presidency "will focus on young and elderly workers, as well as the challenges that women have to face" in their professional life.
