BENEDICT XVI: AUDIENCE, PRAYER AT THE "HEART" OF THE WHOLE ECUMENICAL JOURNEY

” “"Prayer is at the heart of the whole ecumenical journey". Taking his cue from this sentence, which summarises the message of "Unitatis redintegratio", the Council decree on ecumenism, he outlined today a sort of balance of the ecumenical journey, 100 years after the "prophetic idea" of the Week of Prayer for the Unity of Christians. "By asking for the grace of unity – recalled Benedict XVI –, Christians join the prayer of Christ and commit themselves to working proactively" for the "reinstatement of the full unity of all His disciples", at the heart of the Week which is being celebrated over these days, which by now has become the "common heritage of all Christians, "an established tradition" in the life of the Church. It is above all with the "prophetic wind" of the Council, recalled the Pope, that "the urgency of unity" was felt; it then continued after the Council assembly with the "patient journey in search of the full communion of all Christians, the ecumenical journey that year after year has found in the Week of Prayer for the Unity of Christians one of its most relevant and fruitful moments" (continued). ” “
