"Following the decision to cancel the Holy Father’s visit to La Sapienza University in Rome, which should have taken place on Thursday 17th January, the Presidency of the Italian Bishops Conferences expresses its own unconditional sympathy with Benedict XVI, who received a very serious rejection, which is the expression of antidemocratic intolerance and cultural narrow-mindedness. Even more so, because the Holy Father’s visit was the friendly response to an invitation made by the University’s managing bodies, which however has been made ineffective by the ideological and quarrelsome violence of few people.
