BENEDICT XVI: "SUPPORT TO MARRIED FAMILIES IS A PRIORITY"

From the perspective of the "centrality of the human person", the genuine "guiding standard" to "face, at different levels, the current educational emergency", "the respect and support of married families clearly have primary importance". This was repeated today by the Pope, who, as he received in audience the civil servants of Rome and Latium, went back to one of the points of the speech which he gave three days ago to the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See, when he had said that "the political leaders, no matter what side they are on, should defend this institution, which is the core of society". "The natural family – went on Benedict XVI, quoting his recent Message for the World Day of Peace –, as an intimate communion of life and love, based on the marriage of a man and a woman, is the primary place for the humanisation of the person and of society, the cradle of life and love". Then, a comment on the current situation: "Unfortunately, every day we see – said the Pope – how insistently and threateningly this fundamental human and social reality is attacked and misunderstood". According to the Holy Father, therefore, "it is more urgent than ever for the public authorities not to humour such negative trends; instead, they should give the families their determined and factual support, confident that they will thus work for the common good".
