BENEDICT XVI: TO THE "DONO DI MARIA" HOUSE, COMMNUNICATING "’GOD’S SMILE’"

"When she was born in this house, the blessed Mother Teresa wanted to call it ‘Dono di Maria’ (God’s gift), as if she hoped the love of the Blessed Virgin might always be experienced here. For anyone who comes knocking at the door, feeling welcomed by the loving arms of the nuns and volunteers is actually a gift of Mary’s". It was said by Benedict XVI, at the beginning of his meeting at the "Dono di Maria" house, run by the Missionary Nuns of the Charity. "It is also a gift of Mary’s – went on the Pope – that there are people here who stop and listen to people in distress and serve them with the same attitude which promptly pushed the Lord’s Mother towards Saint Elisabeth". Hence the wish: "May this style of evangelical love always seal and mark your calling, so that, as well as material help, you may communicate to all those whom you meet every day the same passion for Christ and that ‘God’s smile’ that have enlivened Mother Teresa’s life". Then, the Holy Father recalled how much the blessed nun of Calcutta loved to say: "Here it is Christmas every time we allow Jesus to love our neighbours through us". (continued)
