EUROPEAN CHURCHES: CCEE, A MEETING ON THE "RELIGIOUS SITUATION IN EUROPE" (2)

The participants will also debate particularly urgent current topics such as euthanasia legalization (in the bioethical field) and research on embryo stem cells. As for the presence of Islam in Europe, the next European Christian/Muslim Conference will be presented (Malines/Brussels, Belgium, 20th to 23rd October), set up by CCEE and the Conference of European Churches (KEK). Moreover, an "exchange of experiences" on permanent deaconry is scheduled. Furthermore, during the works, the CCEE’s research on the teaching of religion in Europe will be presented. The agenda will also include the next World Youth Day in Sydney (15th to 20th July); the Pauline Year 2008-2009; the XII Ordinary Plenary Assembly of the Bishops’ Synod (5th to 26th October, 2008). One part of the works will be devoted to exchange of information on issues connected to ecumenism. In particular, the participants will estimate the assembly process of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (EEA3), ending last September (4th-9th) in Sibiu, Romania, and will debate its implications for the ecumenical scenario in Europe. During the meeting, the programme of the first Catholic-Orthodox Forum will be presented; it is taking place in Trento (Italy) from 11th to 14th December, on "The family as good for mankind". A final note will be distributed at the end of the works.
