A religious service in "Westminster Cathedral", the mother church of English Catholicism, celebrated by card. Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Catholic Primate of England and Wales, and by Rowan Williams, leader of the Anglican Communion, which will also be attended by Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Muslim leaders. This is how Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolari movement, will be commemorated in London next Saturday, June 21st, at 3 pm. "We though of a service instead of Mass, because many people involved in the movement here in Great Britain are not Catholic but belong to other Christian Churches or even other religions", explains Sally McAllister, one of the managers of the movement in London. "One member of the Focolari movement will speak of Chiara’s life for two minutes, then he will leave the floor to delegates of the other religions and the Bengwa people of Cameroon, which was endangered before the arrival of a mission of doctors of the Focolari movement. Card. Murphy-O’Connor will explain the importance of our founder for the Catholic Church, while Rowan Williams will recall the work carried out by Chiara for ecumenical dialogue". In Great Britain, the Focolari movement has existed for forty years and has about one thousand members. Chiara Lubich’s last visit to London was in 2004 when she spoke at the "Methodist Hall", the huge Methodist Church, in front of two thousand people of different religions.
