"Politics and man’s rights-duties, with reference to the defence of life and the promotion of the family; politics and the common good" in relation "to taxation and international cooperation; politics and ecology, including biotechnology": these, explain the organisers, are the items on the agenda of the international workshop, which, on the initiative of the Papal Council for Justice and Peace, will be opening in the Vatican tomorrow (until June 21st) about "Politics, an exacting form of charity". As stated by a presentation release, the meeting has also taken inspiration "from the position of Benedict XVI", who "sees in the crisis of political reason, generated by today’s man’s inability to acknowledge natural law as manifest, a crisis of politics as such" and invites "all those who are responsible for peace and justice" to "work for overcoming this situation". The discussion will be set in the context "of the social doctrine of the Church" and the connections "between the religious sphere, the political sphere and the principle of laicism". The workshop will be opened and closed by the president of "Iustitia et Pax", card. Renato Martino; guests will include historian Andrea Riccardi, the Chilean sociologist Piero Morandé and the president of the "Liberté politique" Foundation, Thierry Boutet.
