CCEE: SPOKESMEN’S MEETING IN ROME, "NEW COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR THE CHURCH" (2)

” “During the opening of the meeting, Card. Péter Erdõ, president of the Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) pointed out "the urgent need to delve into the relationship between the Church and the mass media in the current complex historical period, in which the public is being deliberately misinformed on the Church". And the Secretary General of CEI, Msgr. Giuseppe Betori, stated that "the greatest responsibility for the Church is to invest in training, in order to rely on people capable of criticizing the media, who may pay a contribution to convey the image of the real Church through the media, and not the mask of the Church, as happens also in Italy, very frequently. This is possible and present-day, since recent surveys show us that 70% of Italians are interested in the Church and acknowledge its value". The next plenary assembly of CCEE will be devoted to the relationship between the Church and the world of media. The plenary assembly is taking place in Esztergom-Budapest from 30th September to 3rd October. To prepare for the appointment, CCEE is carrying out a survey to study the situation in Europe. During the meeting, the spokesmen also delved into the mechanisms of building the public opinion, and the relationship between the migration phenomenon and interreligious dialogue with the media.
