EU TREATY: HARKIN (PARLIAMENT), "DISAPPOINTING RESULT". FOR "UE LIFE" "EUROPE IS STALLING AGAIN"

"It is a very disappointing result": Marian Harkin, Irish MEP supporting the ratification of the Treaty commented the vote which rejected the community reform text. During the pre-electoral period, "Ireland became the battlefield of Europe – she said –, and unfortunately, this battle was lost". The MEP hopes next week’s European Union Council will be provided with adequate leadership to re-launch the integration process. "By now, it is clear: the Lisbon Treaty, born from the ashes of the failed Constitution, was rejected by the Irish citizens". The "UE Life" agency, managing also "UE Life TV" devoted to news on Europe with 27 countries, commented the result of the referendum taking place in Dublin. According to UE Life, the rejection expressed by the electors "might re-propose the stalemate situation in which Europe found itself after the similar rejection by the French and the Dutch three years ago". On the other hand, "EuropeanVoice.com" ("Economist" group) recalls William Shakespeare to make known the first results of the vote in Ireland: "The Lisbon treaty. To be or not to be".
