EPISCOPAL SYNOD: THE INSTRUMENTUM LABORIS ON GOD’S WORD PRESENTED IN THE VATICAN

"The need of the primacy to be given to God’s Word in the life and mission of the Church" and at the same time "the courage and creativity of a pedagogy of communication that is suitable for the current age", considering "the current culture, living contexts, the world of communication": these are the main expectations behind the "Instrumentum laboris" for the XII General Ordinary Assembly of the Episcopal Synod (5-26 October 2008, named: "God’s Word in the life and mission of the Church"), that has been presented today in the Vatican by the Secretary General of the Episcopal Synod, mgr. Nikola Eterovic, and the Under-Secretary, mgr. Fortunato Frezza. The text highlights the importance of "appreciating that God’s Word is Jesus Christ and this implies a reading of the whole Bible, regarded in its mystery, in its privileged time that is the liturgical celebration". In addition, the "Instrumentum laboris" emphasises "the certainty that the Bible is the revelation of God’s Word, although there are many problems understanding it, especially in the Old Testament". Then the document shows "the devotees’ great desire to listen to God’s Word, which is met by remarkable pastoral initiatives". (continued)
