The VI European Symposium of University Professors on "Expanding the horizons of rationality. Prospects for philosophy" (until June 8th), organised by the Office for the University Pastoral of the Vicariate, in cooperation with the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccee), the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the National Research Council, will start in Rome tomorrow. 400 lecturers from 26 countries are expected to arrive. After the opening ceremony on the Capitol (at 4.15 pm), the meeting will be opened by the vicar, cardinal Camillo Ruini, and by the emeritus president of the Constitutional Court, Cesare Mirabelli, professor at the University of Tor Vergata. Speakers will include Jean Luc Marion (La Sorbonne University Paris IV), Peter Koslowski (Free University of Amsterdam) and Ugo Amaldi (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire Cern). The day will be concluded by the Solemn Vespers in the adjoining Church of S. Maria in Aracoeli, celebrated at 7.30 pm by mgr. Rino Fisichella, head of the Papal Lateran University, where the conference will go on from June 6th. On Saturday 7th, the participants will be received in a special audience by Benedict XVI (Vatican, 12 am). The conference will be closed on Sunday 8th June by Mass, officiated by archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Papal Culture Council.
