FORMER YUGOSLAVIA: EU, "KARADZIC’S TRANSFER TO THE HAGUE, ONE MORE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE"

The European Union expressed satisfaction for Radovan Karadzic’s transfer to the international criminal court for former Yugoslavia in The Hague". The current presidency of the EU Council, which is being held by the French government these six months, states that "the arrest by the Serbian authorities of Karadzic, and now his transfer, will be an important step in the process of reconciliation in the Western Balkans and in Serbia’s getting closer to the EU". The council of the 27 member states calls Serbia to "go on along this way and find and transfer the last two characters" that are wanted for genocide and are still on the run. The trial in front of the international court against the former Serbian-Bosnian leader Karadzic, "charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, will help shed light on the truth and will fulfil the duty of justice in front of the victims and their families". Finally, the French presidency adds that it will fully support the Court of The Hague "for the essential, exemplary work it is carrying out in furtherance of international justice".
