A campaign for the restoration of the churches that neglect and war have made unusable. This is the goal set out by the Christian communities of the southern governorates of Iraq. The news has been relayed through the Baghdadhope website by father Imad Aziz Al Banna of the Chaldeian diocese of Bassora, who explained that, to do this, the local Christian community applied for government funds and has joined forces with the office in charge of the interests of non-Muslim communities and the Ministry of Planning and the Council of the governorate of Bassora. In addition, Al Banna recalled the recent reopening of the church of Um Al Ahzan at Al Amarah, in the nearby governorate of Maysan, and repeated he trusts the government to work for the conservation of the Christian religious heritage, underlining that the current state of security encourages this campaign, which is more urgent now that some families who had left southern Iraq are coming back home. Recovering the vestiges of this history is important, and it is essential for the international organisations to financially back this project.
