SYDNEY 2008: HOLLAND, THE BISHOPS’ HOPE TO HOST ONE OF THE NEXT WYD” “” “

” “The Dutch bishops would like to welcome one of the next World Youth Days in their country, stated Msgr. Everard de Jong yesterday, after a celebration for the young Dutch taking place in Sidney. Msgr. Everard de Jong is auxiliary bishop of Roermond and in charge of the youth pastoral of the Bishops’ Conference of the Low Countries. De Jong is in Australia with another two bishops of his country to take part in the event. According to the bishop, the youth days "had effects, with time, on the cities setting up the events. In Cologne and Paris, they say the cities underwent some real changes after World Youth Days. The bishops would like the same thing would happen in the Low Countries". De Jong added that the Dutch could not set up the biggest event in the world for young people, and concluded: "One might collaborate with Belgium, as already happened with the European Football Championship in 2000". ” “
