SYDNEY 2008: RUMANIA, "A DREAM COME TRUE" FOR 43 KIDS

"For young Rumanian Catholics, taking part in Sydney’s WYD was just a dream. And now this dream has come true for 43 of them", Father Felix Roca confessed, who is in charge of the Rumanian delegation to Sydney’s WYD. The Rumanian group, which includes both Roman and Greek Catholic kids, arrived in Australia last week and has been hosted by Saint Benedict’s parish in Burwood Melbourne. "During the days spent in the parish – Father Roca explained – we prayed together and took part in the parish patron Saint festivities, we toured the city and have been involved in several social activities. We also planted 200 trees in the city park to leave a visible sign of our presence here". Cateheses for young Rumanians will be delivered by the three priests who are travelling with the kids in the Church of "Our Lady of the Assumption" in Homebush, whose parish priest is Father Mihai Angel, a former Orthodox priest of Rumanian origin who converted to Catholicism in Australia in 1996. "Some of the young Rumanians who are here in Sydney – Father Roca added – also took part in the Rome and Cologne WYDs, but for many of them this is the first time they take part in an event like this and they are thrilled. This is a unique experience for them and I am sure it will also be unforgettable".
