WYD IN SYDNEY: THE ODYSSEY OF IRAQI YOUTH, THEIR FLIGHT TO Australia CANCELLED

(From our correspondents in Sydney) – The dream of Iraqi youth of being present at World Youth day, which officially opened today in Sydney, seems to have vanished. The flight that was supposed to bring them from Erbil (in Northern Iraq) to Sydney, with stopovers in Dubai and Singapore, has been cancelled in its final leg: Singapore – Sydney. News of the flight cancellation was broken by Father Rayan P. Atto. On the website Baghdadhope he expressed all his disappointment for this further hitch after the question of visas had apparently been resolved: "We are lost. We went to the airport but our travel agency called us to say our flight had been cancelled. The complete route was Erbil-Dubai-Singapore-Sydney, but the last leg was cancelled". Father Atto declares he does not know the reasons for the cancellation: "it seems however that the flight had not been confirmed and no seats are available. We were supposed to be the last to arrive in Sydney, but it looks like we won’t be there at all. It’s really a great pity. In spite of everything the agency is trying to find a remedy, all we can do is hope," concludes the Chaldean priest.
