In an "increasingly small and global" world, the "problems of Europe are the emergence of China and India, climate change, the energy sources, hunger, terrorism, the migration of peoples", cultural change, and the "ethical issues that concern life and the human being". Big questions, to which "the extension of the network and the communion between the Bishops Conferences, the bishops and the Christian communities of Europe can give a significant answer". The meeting of the secretaries general of the European Bishops Conferences was also an opportunity to say goodbye to and thank mgr. Aldo Giordano, who has been for 13 years the secretary general of Ccee and has now been appointed Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe. The 2009 meeting will be held in Leopolis, Ukraine, from 9 to 13 July.
