PAULINE YEAR: MALTA, ACCORDING TO PAUL’S EXAMPLE, BUILDING "A NEW ORDER IN THE COUNTRY"

"The strength of his words and his vision should help us, so that, according to his example, we will not give up proposing or building a new order in public life and in the country". Saint Paul is proposed as an example for today’s Christians by mgr. Paul Cremona, archbishop of Malta, and mgr. Mario Grech, bishop of Gozo, in the wish that ends the Pastoral Letter published on the occasion of the opening of the Pauline Year (28 June 2008 – 29 June 2009). Recalling Saint Paul’s shipwreck on the Isle of Malta, the prelates define the event "a blessing and a privilege" and look to the Apostle of the People as to "our father in faith". Hence the importance that the Pauline Year "should not be merely an opportunity for lots of celebrations", but, "in the wrecks that many of us have to face every day", it may be an opportunity to "rediscover the strength that comes of faith". "In every age – goes on the Letter –, the Christian community needs to rediscover its own identity": hence the need to "go back to the roots" and look at Saint Paul who "even today has a lot to tell us".(continued)” “
