BENEDICT XVI: "THE WEALTHY COUNTRIES CANNOT TAKE ALL FOR THEMSELVES WHAT COMES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES"

"The pursuit of justice" to steer politics, "so that the rights and dignity of all human beings will be respected and so that all the population of a country can share the national wealth". This was pointed out by Benedict XVI to the ambassadors of Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Chad, Bangladesh, Belarus, Guinea, Sri Lanka and Nigeria, that he received today for the presentation of their credentials. "The human community – stated the Pontiff – is called to show its solidarity with the poorer ones, in seeing that the wealth is shared better, to enable those countries that have assets in their soil or subsoil to benefit first". "The wealthy countries – denounced Benedict XVI – cannot take all for themselves what comes from other countries. It is a duty of justice and solidarity that the international community supervise the distribution of resources" to boost the development of the poor countries. The pursuit of justice, added the Pope, must be supported by "fraternity, in order to build societies in which harmony and peace will reign and to settle any problems through dialogue, not through violence. Every person involved in public life is called to carry out this mission of service", concluded Benedict XVI who confirmed the commitment of the local Churches in this sphere.
