The 58th General Assembly of the Italian Bishops Conference will open on Monday 26th May at 5 pm in the Vatican, with an introduction by the president, cardinal Angelo Bagnasco. It will be followed by an opening address of the apostolic nuncio to Italy, mgr. Francesco Bertello, and the delegated bishops of the foreign Bishops Conferences. Then, the Assembly will appoint the President of the Bishops Commission for culture and social communication and the President of the Bishops Commission for the service of charity and health. During the meeting said the Social Communication Office of the Italian Bishops Conference , the bishops will discuss "Youth and Gospel: evangelisation and educational processes". Then, the Italian Bishops will reflect on twenty years of the new system for the financial support of the Catholic Church in Italy. During the General Assembly, the Italian Bishops will meet Pope Benedict XVI. The assembly will go on to discuss an item on the agenda regarding the end of the activity promoted by the Jubilee campaign for debt reduction in the poor countries and the presentation of the final document of the 45th Social Week of Italian Catholics.
