BENEDICT XVI: ABORTION A "WOUND", "GIVE CENTRE STAGE TO THE DEFENCE OF LIFE AND THE FAMILY"

30 years after Act 194, admitted the Pope, "defending human life has now become practically more difficult, because a mentality has come to the fore whereby the value of human life has been slowly debased and entrusted to the judgment of the individual. As a consequence, this has reduced the respect of the human being, a value, this one, which is the foundation of any civil cohabitation, regardless of the faith one professes". For Christians, in such context, "an urgent, essential area of apostolate and evangelical testimony remains open at all times: protecting life with courage and love at all its stages". A job, this one – said the Pope to the participants –, that, as a Life-Helping Centre and a Pro-Life Movement, you carry out to prevent abortion even in the case of difficult pregnancies, while also working in the area of education, culture and the political arena". "One must effectively testify that the respect of life is the first and foremost justice to be applied", warned the Pontiff, according to whom "for those who have the gift of faith, this becomes a binding imperative", in the light "of a truth that can never be removed: only God is the Lord of life.
