COUNCIL OF EUROPE: CURRENT PRESIDENCY, SLOVAKIA HANDING OVER TO SWEDEN

A change in the presidency of the Council of Europe. With the Committee of the Ministers, which tomorrow will take to the Strasbourg premises over thirty ministers of foreign affairs or secretaries of state for foreign affairs from the member states, Slovakia will hand the presidency over to Sweden. Jan Kubis, on behalf of the Bratislava government, will chair the meeting of the presidency, taking stock of the work carried out from November to late April, then he will hand the six-month presidency of the CoE over to his counterpart from Stockholm, Carl Bildt. Then, the Swedish Minister will list the priorities of his program. The meeting will be focussed on the "contribution of the Council of Europe to common stability and security", including a check of the Action Plan, adopted during the Warsaw summit. "Discussions – explains a note from the CoE – will concern in particular: the strengthening of the human rights protection system; relations between the CoE and the European Union; intercultural dialogue". Items on the agenda include the situation in South-Eastern Europe.
