TYPHOON IN MYANMAR: TELEGRAM OF CONDOLENCE FROM THE POPE

"Deeply aggrieved by the tragic consequences of the recent typhoon" – which so far has caused at least 15 thousand victims and 30 thousand missing people –, today the Pope expressed his "friendly sympathy" with the president of the Bishops Conference of Myanmar, in a telegram of condolence sent today by card. Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State. "With prayers for the victims and their families", Benedict XVI invokes "God’s peace on the dead people and God’s strength and comfort on the homeless and the suffering". "Confident that the international community will respond with generosity and effective help to the needs" of the country, the Pope also expresses in this telegram his "solidarity and concern to the civilian authorities and the beloved people of Myanmar".
