"Mercy is the core of the evangelical message, it is God’s very name" and "the face of the Church" which "is manifested both through the Sacraments, especially reconciliation, and through joint or individual charitable deeds". It was said by the Pope yesterday while saying the Regina Coeli from Castelgandolfo, through an audio-video link with Saint Peter’s Square, before going back (in the afternoon) to the Vatican after a short period of rest. "All that the Church says or does manifests God’s mercy for man", recalled Benedict XVI, according to whom, "from God’s mercy, which soothes the hearts, springs true peace in the world, peace among different peoples, cultures and religions". Then a reference to John Paul II, who, "during the Jubilee of 2000, established that all over the Church the Sunday after Easter as well as being Low Sunday should also be called the Sunday of the Divine Mercy", to coincide with the canonisation of Faustina Kowalska, "a humble Polish nun, born in 1905 and died in 1938, the zealous messenger of Jesus the Merciful".
