The monitoring system for the protection of the environment and biodiversity in Africa, presented in Brussels today, was developed and will be run by the Common Research Centre (CRC), an internal scientific service of the EU Commission. The collected data, once processed and surveyed by the European scientists, will be published online on the website: http://www-tem.jrc.it/pa. "The website is updated every ten days explain the researchers and covers 741 protected areas in 50 countries, it provides information on 280 mammals, 381 bird species and 930 amphibian species, as well as a whole range of climate, environmental and socio-economical issues". The monitoring system "will be used to compare situations in different protected areas in one country or ecosystem and is an important tool for the future allocation of resources to the places that need them most". So this is about monitoring the environmental trends to provide information for more effective EU’s and international investments. "The information system will help politicians and decision-makers to allocate the required funds to the sustainable management of the natural resources".
