” “Today, the European Commission has allocated 300 million euros to the Palestinian populations as humanitarian aids and cooperation to development. The Commissioner in charge of external relations and neighbourhood policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner explained that 229 million euros will be given to Pegase (a euro-Palestinian agency which manages social and economic aids) through which the National Palestinian Authority works in governance, social development, private economy and public infrastructure; 71 million euros have been allocated instead to the Unrwa, a Un program for the refugees of the Near East. Such funds should be completely available by the end of the year. The EU is thus trying to respond to the cry for help from the government chaired by Salam Fayyad: "Once again explained Ferrero-Waldner , this shows how committed we are to supporting the NPA in its attempt to improve the life of the Palestinian people through a peace agreement with Israel".
