SPE SALVI: PRESENTATION OF BENEDICT XVI’S ENCYCLICAL IN MOSCOW TODAY

Pope Benedict XVI’s second encyclical, "Spe salvi", has been published over these days in Russia. The publication – by Edizioni Francescane, in cooperation with the Apostolic Nunciature and the Catholic news agency Agnuz – will be presented tonight at the "Spirit Library" Culture Club in Moscow by the archbishop of the Russian capital, mgr. Paolo Pezzi, and by father Vladimir Shmalij, secretary of the Synodal Theological Committee of the Patriarchate and vice-rector of Sergiev Posad’s Theological Academy. The "Spirit Library" was opened in Moscow in 1993 by the "Christian Russian" Foundation along with the Orthodox Centre of Saint Cyril and Methodius of Minsk and the diocesan Caritas of Moscow. Catholic and Orthodox people work together there promoting (through meetings, exhibitions and publication) opportunities for exchanges and ecumenical dialogue. In Moscow the current Pontiff’s writings have already provided opportunities for dialogue in the past, for instance in 2006 with the publication of "Introduction to Christianity", with an introduction by the Orthodox metropolitan bishop Kirill.” “
