A letter of congratulations to José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the current president of the government and secretary general of Psoe, on his victory at yesterday’s political election in Spain: it was sent today, on behalf of the Spanish Bishops, by the president and the secretary general of the Spanish Bishops Conference, card. Antonio Maria Rouco Varela and mgr. Juan Antonio Martinez Camino, respectively. "We assure you wrote the two prelates in the letter of our prayer, that the Lord may grant you His light and His strength in the accomplishment of the high responsibilities which are entrusted to you by the Spanish people, at the service of peace, justice, freedom and the common good of all the citizens". At the same time, card. Rouco Varela and mgr. Martinez Camino expressed once again to Zapatero "their willingness and the willingness of the Spanish Bishops Conference to sincerely cooperate with the legitimate state authorities to serve the common good in the best possible way".
