Human dignity, they stressed, is "at the heart of the confrontation on life, the reform of the school and university, the European research policy, the professional world". As to the protection of the Creation, which is "the focus of concern for politicians and Christians in Europe", according to Comece, a priority is "the search for measures to fight climate change" and, to do this, the Commission established a special think-tank last November. Finally, the Bishops thanked the secretary general of Comece, mgr. Noel Treanor, for "the great service rendered to the Church in Europe in his permanent, dialogic relation with the European institutions". On 29th June, mgr. Treanor will be ordained bishop of the Irish dioceses of Down & Connor.
