Eight people died, plus the attacker, and nine people were wounded. This is the balance of the terrorist attack of last night against the Merkaz Harav Yeshiva, the most important rabbinic college in Jerusalem, in the neighbourhood of Kyriat Moshe. According to Aharon Franco, head of Jerusalem Police District, a terrorist from East Jerusalem entered the library, which was full of people, especially young people, and with an automatic weapon wildly shot about 500 bullets before being killed by an armed student. An organisation, so far unknown, the self-styled "Battalions for Free Galilee Martyrs of Imad Mughniyeh", claimed responsibility for the attack against the college. This is a clear reference to the military leader of Hezbollah killed in Damascus on 12 February and to the victims of the Israeli offensive in Gaza. Israel raised the state of alert for today, during the funerals of the victims and the Islamic prayers in the esplanade. Just after the news of the massacre, many people gathered in front of the college to rail against the Arabs. The deed has been condemned by the whole world, including the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. Israel said the attack will not stop the peace talks.
