CARNAGE IN INDIA: THE BISHOPS, "A DEVASTATING HUMAN TRAGEDY". APPEAL AGAINST TERRORISM (2)

“The terrorist attacks in several areas of Mumbai, in which innocent people, foreigners and policemen have been killed – states archbishop Fernandes –, is one of the most serious atrocities ever and must be most firmly condemned by everybody. Terrorism is evil, and all those who are involved in it work against the very foundation of human life that is sacred in God’s eyes”. The Bishops of India also made an appeal to the population of Mumbai, "to maintain peace and harmony at this time of suffering and pain". In addition, they exhort the government "to take strong, effective measures to control the threat of terrorism in India". "Violence is never acceptable as a medium to achieve an end – they state –, no matter how noble it is. We have to take peaceful measures to settle problems, the only way for a more civilised life in our society".
