GALILEO GALILEI: CARDINAL BERTONE, "WITH HIM REASON IS ESTABLISHED ON NEW BASES" (3)

Continuing his reflections on Galileo Galilei, Cardinal Bertone added: "This is not the right place to go back to the issues that have accompanied the figure of this great scientist in his relationship with the Church. Some clarification statements have been issued over the past few years. They have highlighted both the miscalculations of some Churchmen based on the mentality of the time – affirmed Cardinal Bertone – and the rich personality of this scientist that discovered that the earth is not the centre of all celestial movements by using his astronomical telescope." Then the Secretary of State concluded by saying "it is worth noticing that Galileo, a man of science, has cultivated with love his faith and his deep religious beliefs. Gelileo Galilei is a man of faith that saw nature as a book written by God."
