"Ignoring Christ means ignoring a fundamental and essential part of our history and our common heritage. So let’s make an appeal to the public powers and the mass media to work not to exclude religiosity from the public sphere but to promote the highest respect for the religious sentiments of the Spanish". It was stated by the Observatory against Religious Defamation (Oadir) about the sentence passed by a judge of Valladolid who ruled that crucifixes be removed from a public school of the city. "We do not understand writes the Observatory how a crucifix might offend anyone". Actually, the sentence, defined as "censurable", instils "resentment for the religious phenomenon that is typical of the ideology which is usually called ‘extreme laicism’", which is sneaking into some spheres of society. In addition, given the right of the few who do not want religious symbols on display, one must consider "the right of the majority of the students of that school, who wish to see those religious symbols and the historical, artistic, cultural importance of the Christian tradition in our country, what are usually called the Christian roots".
