"Pray for this genocide, which killed almost six million people": it was the request addressed to believers by the metropolitan archbishop of the Ukraine Catholic Church, Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, on 22nd November, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Holodomor, the terrible famine causing millions of dead in Ukraine and other regions of the Soviet Union during the communist regime, in the years 1932-1933. Last Sunday, after the Angelus, the Pope recalled it, too. In a note for SIR Europe, the Ukrainian priest Pavlo Vyshkovsky recalled its most important characteristics, and made known that the people all over the country prayed for the victims of the Holodomor, on invitation by the religious in charge of all churches Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant on November 22nd. "President Yushchenko, too went on Vyshkovsky – invited the international community to recall this tragic event", in the same way as "Orthodox patriarchs Bartholomew I of Constantinople and Alexius II of Moscow" did. The ecumenical movement "Communion" was established by young Ukrainians in the last few days; numerous people belonging to different religions are already part of it. The aim of the Movement, said Vyshkovsky, is "praying and let the world know about this huge tragedy".
