According to the survey published by the European Union’s Statistics Office, the EU member states that received the highest number of immigrants were Spain (803 thousand), Germany (558 thousand), the United Kingdom (451 thousand), that, alone, took up three fifths of the total flows. Compared with the national population, it is the smallest countries that have received the highest number of arrivals: from Luxembourg to Ireland and Cyprus, followed by Spain and Austria; the European average has settled at 6.2 immigrants per one thousand residents. Conversely, there are countries that are far from such figures, such as Poland, Romania, Lithuania and Latvia, with low numbers of arrivals compared with the total population. As to the new "migratory routes", substantial flows can be observed from Moldavia to Romania, from Ukraine to the Czech Republic, from Bosnia Herzegovina to Slovenia, from Albania to Greece. Finally, there are countries that mostly attract immigrants with a EU passport: these are Luxembourg, Ireland, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Belgium.
