(Simona Mengascini, SIR correspondent in Cyprus) The dialogue between Jews and Christians has reached "irreversible achievements," is "inevitable" and is meant to reach the family of Islam. It is what emerged this morning in Cyprus at the round table on the theme "Jews and Christians: ineluctable dialogue," promoted within the forum which is taking place in Cyprus by the Sant’Egidio community. "Undoubtedly," said Mgr Ambrogio Spreafico Rector of the Pontifical Urbaniana University, "the relationship between Christians and Jews, especially after Vatican II, has reached irreversible achievements. It is our duty to avoid any seatback that could call into question the precious reflections we have made over the past years, in the respect of our identity and freedom of our choices." "Here in Cyprus," added the Bible scholar, "at the heart of the Mediterranean, where Judaism and Christianity have always lived side by side, we discover the strength of a vocation that binds us together indissolubly and is rooted in God’s call to Abraham, a vocation to be men and women trusting the Almighty God, Father of humanity, and be led only by Him.
