"It is for the authentic good of society" that the Catholic Church is taking side on the basis of "fundamental ethical principles." So spoke Pope Benedict XVI receiving the credentials from the new ambassador of the Republic of San Marino today. "When the Catholic Church, through its legitimate Pastors, invokes some fundamental ethic principles rooted in Europe’s Christian heritage, and their value in private life and, all the more, in public life, it is moved only by the wish to guarantee and promote the inviolable dignity of the human being and the authentic good of society," said the Pope. "The ultimate purpose of our daily personal and/or communitarian commitment," explained the Holy Father, "is to achieve an authentic individual well-being and to build a society that welcomes everyone and is attentive to everyone’s needs.
