EU: A EUROPE OF WELFARE AND SOLIDARITY IN RESPONSE TO GLOBALISATION

Renewing the welfare policies within the European Union, in "response to the new emerging scenarios, in connection with globalisation". This is the theme on which the current presidency of the 27 has promoted a meeting in Paris today, called "New welfare issues in a changing Europe", which has been included in the process of development and enforcement of the European Social Agenda (July 2008). Guests will include "experts and politicians" to "exchange views, academic notions and political approaches during four workshops". The first workshop will focus on the Europe of welfare, in the context of globalisation; the second one, on ageing and solidarity between generations; the third one, on diversity and social cohesion; the last workshop will concern the tools (policies, plans, funds) of the Europe of welfare. On the environmental front, instead, the EU has organised the first forum of managers of wildlife areas in Lyons on 12-14 November, "above all to promote the professional profiles that work in wildlife areas, especially within public bodies (EU Commission, states, ministries, local bodies), with the press and the public at large".
