An open letter to the Italian Senate, which has recently passed a bipartisan petition on the persecution of the Christian communities in the world, asking it to "keep working for the defence of all Iraqi minorities, Christians, Shabaks, Yazidis and Mandeians, because respecting them is a prerequisite for the birth of a truly democratic Iraq". The initiative has been promoted by the website of Baghdadhope, which takes care of the Iraqi Chaldean community, and comes just after the ratification, on November 8th,of the electoral law of the provincial councils, which allocates a minimum amount of seats to the minorities (just 6 out of 440, 3 of which to Christians). Baghdadhope sent the letter to the 85 Senators who signed the 4 petitions submitted on October 30th, which asked the government: "to take initiatives to fight the persecution of the Christian communities in India, Iraq and other countries; to work through the EU to monitor the state of Christians in those countries in which they are a minority; to directly lobby the national authorities of India and Iraq; to work hard to make fundamental rights respected".
