"Even today, it is necessary to evangelize about the reality of death and eternal life, a reality subject to superstitious beliefs and syncretism, so that Christian truth does not mix with ‘various types of mythologies’." This is what the Pope said at yesterday’s Angelus meditating on the "relationship with the death in the truth of the faith", encouraging those present to "look at death, and what lies beyond, in the light of revelation." Citing the words of St. Paul the Apostle, he encouraged the faithful "not to be sad like those who have no hope." "In my encyclical on Christian hope I examined the mystery of eternal life. I asked myself: is the Christian faith also for us today a life-changing and life-sustaining hope?" Are men and women of our time still longing for eternal life? Or perhaps earthly existence has become their only horizon?" The Holy father recalled that "every man is longing for a ‘blessed life’ and for happiness. We do not know exactly what it is but we feel attracted by it. This is a universal hope, common to men of all times and all places."
