The University of Navarra has convened for today, October 31st, a five minutes’ silent rally to respond to the terrorist attack carried out by ETA yesterday, which injured 21 people, including an Italian woman. The venue is in front of the Faculty of Social Science, where thousands of people are expected to arrive, including students, professors and administrative staff. The initiative of the University of Navarra, which is based in Pamplona and is run by Opus Dei, has been joined by the University Foundation San Pablo-Ceu, which invites the students and the staff to observe one minute’s silence at midday in all its centres. The attack has been condemned by the archbishop of Valencia, card. Agustín García-Gasco, who defined it "a new display of barbarism and of the culture of death". The cardinal made an appeal to "reject without ambiguities the circle of violent people and the culture that promotes, supports, justifies or understands it". On his part, Ángel J. Gómez-Montoro, rector of the University of Navarra, pointed out that "this attack on the university institution deserves the most energetic rejection". Assuring they will go back to normality as soon as possible, the rector highlighted "the importance of forgiveness" and made "an appeal to the terrorists, that they may stop making so many peoples suffer".
