BENEDICT XVI: TO THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCE, "THERE’S NO OPPOSITION BETWEEN SCIENCE AND FAITH"

” “"There’s no opposition between the understanding of faith about the Creation and the evidence of the empirical science". This was repeated once again by Pope Benedict XVI, as this morning he gave audience to the members of the Papal Academy of Science that from today to November 3rd will hold their plenary meeting, called "Scientific Insight into the Evolution of the Universe and of Life". The Pope liked this choice for their reflections, because – he said – "today, many of our contemporaries wish to reflect on the ultimate origin of beings, on their cause and the meaning of human history and the universe". Then the Pope held a veritable lecture on the origin of life. "To state that the foundation of the cosmos and its developments", said the Pope, "is the provident wisdom of the Creator is not to say that creation has only to do with the beginning of the history of the world and of life. It implies, rather, that the Creator founds these developments and supports them, underpins them and sustains them continuously". Therefore, the Creation is neither a movement nor a mutation. It is instead the foundational and continuing relationship that links the creature to the Creator, for he is the cause of every being and all becoming". (continued)” “
