The International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC) is "most grateful" to the Holy See for all the things it has recently said and done against the "sin" of xenophobia and anti-Semitism and "all the forms of prejudice and narrow-mindedness." These words were spoken this morning by Rabbi David Rosen, President of the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations, in an audience with Pope Benedict XVI. Mr Rosen presented to the Pope the International Catholic-Jewish Joint Committee’s meeting, which will take place in November in Budapest, featuring a joint commemoration of the "Crystal Night" by Catholics and Jews. This event marked one of the "darkest" chapters in Jewish history. In particular, "we thank all those Christians who have been faithful to the highest teaching of their faith and have saved many Jews during that terrible period," said the Rabbi. "That is why we put forward our humble request, asking that historians could gain complete and open access to the archive material concerning that period to shed light on the actions and politics of that period and make them consistent within and outside our communities."
