Developing student and teacher exchanges as part of cooperation between the universities of the European Union and those of the Maghreb countries, inspired by the Erasmus programme, which enables European students to study at a university in several European countries: this is the aim of the "Averroes" programme, designed to boost the exchange of knowledge and promote the reform of university teaching, shared by Europe and the other Mediterranean countries. To bring the universities on the two banks of the Mediterranean Sea closer to each other and support the "Averroes" programme, three days’ workshops have been held in the last few days at the University of Béjaia, Algeria, approximately 200 km East of the capital, Algiers, which have been attended by university lecturers from European countries, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. "This kind of projects said Michel Dumas of the University of Montpellier 2, coordinator of the international exchange programme mostly aims at bringing students from different counties closer to each other, promoting exchanges between different cultures, and creating one single space of research, mostly fuelled by such exchanges".
