” ” Two campaigns for disabled people, promoted over the same days by the European Union and the Council of Europe. On 29th and 30th October, in Clermont-Ferrand (France), the 27-EU organises an international conference on "Social inclusion: a European approach to school integration for handicapped students". The meeting, as explained by the promoters, "is part of the campaign for the rights of disabled young people, an integral part of the Lisbon Declaration of 17th September 2007". The conference, which will be attended by 300 experts from all over the continent, "by comparing legislations within the EU, aims at finding good practices to improve the inclusion of disabled students in Europe". The event was an idea of the current presidency, partly in the run-up to the drafting of the document called "XX-century schooling" which should be adopted by the Education Committee in November. The Council of Europe, instead, arranged a conference about the "improvement of the quality of life of disabled people", due to take place in Strasbourg. The Human Rights Commissioner, Thomas Hammarberg, will present an introductory report on the nationwide implementation of disabled people’s rights.
